After countless hours, MeetingSource.com went live yesterday with its first redesign in a decade. Unlike in the past, when five programmers and a huge budget was required, this time we could use a (very) small team and focus on the content portion because programming headaches although not gone were minimized.
So, what content did we use to kick things off? Three types of “best of” lists appear on the front-page as content – along with the general search.12 Picks for the Best Convention City in 2017
A List of 'Second-Tier' Convention Cities
The lists are fun to create and are already getting good traffic but can we really say it’s done? No, this is just a starting point. We’re missing the participation of the very groups that the website serves. For this, we’re adding several places and ways all parts of the market can comment and engage.
Meeting planners can add comments on areas they’ve visited. Meeting sourcing pros can recommend facilities. Finally, Convention and Visitor’s Bureaus are encouraged to either claim or add their listing. They'll be dozens of add-ons they can try. The first is a section on fam trips.
Although we're proud of our “best of” lists, they can never replace a visit to a place.
