Albany Combines A Convention Center, Walkable Plaza, Meeting Facilities and Much More

The Governor Nelson A Rockefeller Empire State Plaza is the centerpiece for Albany city-wide events. Located in the heart New York State’capital city, the complex is the most recognizable public attraction, as well as its premier stage for meetings, conventions and the performing arts. It was built for this purpose - and of course, as a place for government offices.

The convention center in Albany is the Empire Plaza Convention Center and has 80,000 square feet of exhibit space. The Convention Hall is the terraced main room of the center and has two stages, one being an elevator which can be raised above floor level or dropped to loading docks as the street level. Five adjoining rooms accommodate 150 people each. A sixth meeting room, equipped with a stage, accommodates 450.

The convention center opens onto the concourse, the quarter mile “main-street” of the Empire Plaza which is lined with shops, restaurants and other services. The Plaza also has a covered bus terminal which is lined with 3000 underground parking spaces accessible by elevators.

Also within the Plaza is “the Egg” and elliptical structure which houses the Hart Theater and the Swyer Theater. The Hart is a 982-seat main theatre where as the Swyer is an intimate 450-seat studio theatre. The Hart Theatre’s spectacular curved lounge space measures 10,000 square feet and can accommodate as many as 1000 people for receptions and other activities. The Swyer Theatre’s small lounge area is perfect for intimate cocktail and reception gatherings or informal pre-show discussions.

The Empire State Plaza Convention Complex is directly connected to the Pepsi Arena, and enclosed arena with an adaptable seating capacity of 6000 to 175000; a 13000 square-foot exhibition hall, and a glass-enclosed atrium, making it the third largest multipurpose arena in New York State.

The exhibition hall, arena floor and arena concourse combine to provide over 55000 square feet of exhibit space. The Pepsi Arena’s meeting and convention facilities are fully adaptable for meetings, conventions, trade shows and banquets. The arena complex includes restaurants, a sports bar and retail shop. Easily accessible from major interstate highways, the Arena has full service loading bays, a covered shuttle bus stop area and is completely wheelchair accessible.

Albany is a popular convention destination for all kinds of state and regional organizations as well as events for national organizations like NASA.
